Lippi offered Italian job Monday 4 September, 2006 Channel4 Football Italia

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FIGC commissioner Guido Rossi is considering hiring World Cup winning boss Marcello Lippi as an Azzurri coordinator.

Lippi quit in the aftermath of Germany 2006 glory, but has today been associated with a return to the Federation just days after the disappointing 1-1 draw with Lithuania.

“I have spoken to Lippi frequently over the past few weeks and met him personally in Sardinia,” Rossi told the Il Giornale newspaper. “I offered him a job and I am confident that he will accept it.

“I believe that after winning the World Cup and achieving so many important results with the clubs he trained, Lippi now wants new motivation and enthusiasm.

“Lippi needs a new role. I would like him to become a sort of tutor of the Federation’s national teams, coordinating everyone’s work.”

Things haven’t gone too well for the Azzurri since Lippi’s departure with new boss Roberto Donadoni also losing his first game in charge – a 2-0 defeat to Croatia.

He will now look for his first victory as Coach on Wednesday in France, even if Rossi insists the side deserved more luck on Saturday night.

“I spoke to the team after the match,” added Rossi. “I had to encourage them all because they really felt like they had been defeated, when in reality we were very unlucky.

“Antonio Cassano has returned to being the great player we all know and I think this can only be positive.

“Lithuania are at a further stage in their preparation than us, their championship started over five weeks ago, but this is only the beginning of our European adventure.”

Rossi was also impressed by the supporters’ welcome at the San Paolo Stadium before the match against Lithuania.

“I had never seen anything like it,” he commented. “I realised when the World Cup had entered the stadium because the entire stand was shaking. I was really very excited.”

:disagree: Lippi should tell Guido to stick it where it hurts.

The highlighted bold point contradicts Guido. That statement indirectly claims that Lippi was the main man behind Juve success under his era. Yet guido was the one persueing the allegations of sacking him prior to the world cup and also mentioned that Juve has been cheating for many years (even under lippi's era).

Theres only one place where Lippi belongs.. and thats Juve.

Lippi: "Suck my dick you interista. I didnt know you wanted me so bad as to replcae me with unproven Donadoni in a split second. Now you realize that your new wife isnt as attractive as she seemed, and you want be back? You can go to hell."

It is obvious to me Rossi is fearing the worst case scenario whereby some part of media will turn their knife towards him for choosing Donadoni. As far as I concerned Rossi wanted to distance FIGC with Juve as much as possible, and he didnt pitch his best effort to Lippi. And for what reasons did he displace Claudio Gentile who has done a reasonably good job whilst he was in charge with Azzrurini. Obviously, because Lippi won the WC, he was able to leave in his own terms, I can only imagine the consequences had he not won the whole thing.
And you don't replace your WC winning coach in a matter of week, which means that he already penned in Lippi's replacement from the start.

Now that Italia is off to horrible start, Rossi wants to show he is doing something, and deflect some of the criticisms that will be aimed at him. I don't see why on earth should Lippi help this bastard out when he doesnt want to return the favour to Juve. Beside, what would Lippi gain by returning to international management, when he is already Championi del Mundo, and his presence will bring in media facada about when he will officially replace Donadoni at the helm.
Rossi, IMO, is quickly booking his place as the worst of head FIGC, and
Italia will miss the day Carraro was a master administrator.

Is he just trying to keep Lippi away from taking up a much needed role at Juventus? Truly, Marcello's presence could make a big difference to the new system in place.
