Juve chase Prandelli and Del Neri
Thursday 13 May, 2010
Juventus have apparently diverted all of their attention to hiring either Cesare Prandelli or Gigi Del Neri and hope to announce a deal some time next week.

La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that since the breakdown in talks with Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, Juventus have focused on bringing in an Italian tactician.

Del Neri is said to be in pole position, but negotiations aren't likely to be easy with Sampdoria, as Juventus are attempting to take their entire technical staff.

The Bianconeri have got the all clear from Riccardo Garrone to hire Beppe Marotta as the club's general manager and he is likely to bring Samp's academy director Fabio Paratici with him to Turin.

In all, Garrone would be giving up a lot if he let Del Neri go as well.

It's for this reason that Andrea Agnelli plans to make a last attempt to convince Diego Della Valle to free Prandelli from his contract with Fiorentina.

Always thought Del Neri is a decent coach...whether he is Juventus material is up for debate...he's knows his stuff though.
Decent, maybe that's the thing. He don't need a decent coach, we need a much better one.

I don't know why would someone rate him. He was decent at Chievo and awful in Roma.

He's not as good as Ranieri. And Ranieri wasn't good enough for Juve. He's a step up from Ferrara and Zach but thats not saying much...

When it's so glaring that some people aren't right for the job, I dont know how we've allowed it to filter through our system that mediocre coaches are allowed through the door. Surely, after having had the likes of Ancelotti, Lippi, Capello and Trap, we can't move to the likes of Zaccheroni and Del Neri. Not cool. Seriously, Andrea Agnelli needs to revisit the Moggi era and use the thinking that prevailed then. The winner's mentality.

even Lippi was a small coach once, you need to take a chance...this is not the first time Del Neri has had an impressive season.

Would be nice to at least table an effort to get Blanc. Go after Gourcuff too though the article claims he wants CL.

Ugh, we may be able to get a decent coach this summer but without CL I don't know how we will get some good players:(

Lippi was a small time coach, but when he joined us he was relatively young for a coach ~45... This dude is at the end of his coaching career. If the only high profile club he has coached is Roma for a season, it must be for a reason...

Roma was in turmoil in those days, no surprise that it didn't work out...and age is but a number.
    A number that matters :D
When Ferrara took over I hoped he'd be our new Trapattoni. That didn't work out too well. I'd like someone who has shown promise and has enough experience. Blanc would be ideal I suppose (with the short number of candidates we have). I'd prefer Prandelli over Delneri. Or maybe we just have to wait until Pellegrini gets sacked :p

Ciro was a fuckin' noob, who has no idea what he's doing...was a fucked up gamble to take, even though I supported it (for emotional reasons)...Del Neri however isn't, he knows his shit.

Remember Ahmed, the older coaches don't play "modern football". :howler:
It has nothing to do with modern football. I don't mind if we play shit football and still manage to get a decent position in the league. I don't mind getting an older coach either. Just those coaches who in spite of having spent so many years coaching haven't done anything significant consistently. Delneri had two or three good seasons in the top flight inspite of coaching for over 20 years.
