We all know about the "tiers". The unspoken categories that teams are lumped in, from the teams who challenge for League and European glory to those to whom glory consists of seeing the light of Serie A.

Many teams have fallen down the tiers over the years- Napoli, Genoa, Torino, Fiorentina, etc.

Very few manage to come back up, however.

What does it take to come back up? And which teams have the potential to do so?

Its hard to answer that in terms of Serie A right now, cause I would of said teams like Torino for example, but obviously right now that isnt the case.

I think definitely Napoli, I hope they come back, they deserve it IMO. They have the support, tradition and history, I believe they'll be back within the next 5 years.

After winning the Scudetto 14 years ago and just barely losing to Barca in the CL final in '92, Sampdoria is again on the rise. Only back in Serie A for two seasons now, and they're already threatening CL qualification.

I think it's a mostly coincidental combination of various ingredients that can really propel a team to a level entirely above its own.Almost all great teams have gone through a period of failure in their history, like how Man Utd progressed from an unkown club by the name of Newton Heath to the Busby Babes, then the Munich air disaster and finally how Fergie transformed them into the powerhouse it is today(or at least was a few seasons a ago).

Alot of clubs may have one or two seasons of overachievement due to one or two ingredients present in the team eg. a great coach, sound finances, a promising youngster or star player, or an unorthodox style of play. But you need a fairly large and well rounded combination to fully cement your place amongst your betters. In today's game, alot of the bigger clubs tend to rob them of their best players/coaches before the smaller club has had the chance to really work with them.

I have to say Napoli..Just because of their History. And I have to say that I wouldn't be mad if I saw Milan lose a scudetto to a team from a lower tier. It just gives us more competition and makes everyone happy.
