Add to this that Totti is also finished and you see were the problem is, an owner not willing to spent, a coach without options and players that are over their peak.

Roma isn't top 4 material this season, and if they aren't carefull, for the next few seasons neither.

Maybe those who keep saying how Hamsik is overrated, inconsistent and he scores a lot only because he's always on the right place ( i'm looking at you Mark and Fred) would like to check his goal from yesterday, and even the long rage goal from last week.

2 goals on 2 matches and a perfectly valid goal disallowed for no reason (last week against Palermo, called offside, even though there was no offside).

Every year scores ~15 goals (as a midfielder) and people say he's inconsistant and overrated :howler:
On that note, i too have been meaning to tell you that it looks like Gael is back to his best. He has been a beast this year, particularly against United :D

As for Hamsik, i don't remember him ever reaching double figure digits in any season. Didn't he score 9 last season?

He is good at scoring goals, his off the ball movement helps him be in the right place in the right time, he is a decent player, i've never said otherwise. But i do believe heis overrated, and i also believe he is not good enough to be starting for a big team.

What?
No fucking way.

I watched Arsenal-Manchester and it was all about Evra who is a real beast of a player. Clichy is just an average full back and there was absolutely nothing special about him on that match.

As for Hamsik, i don't remember him ever reaching double figure digits in any season. Didn't he score 9 last season?
You talk serie A, i talk overall.

Last season he scored 9 goals in serie A, 1 in Coppa, 1 in Uefa cup and 3 for Slovakia. That's 14 goals on 48 matches, which is very solid for a 21-22 years old midfielder.
Now add the assists too and you'll see great numbers.

And that includes the terrible second half of the season, where he, and everyone else in Napoli, was awful.
You started watching him on the same match when Napoli's drop of form started (i think Napoli-Catania) and that's why you think of him the way you do.
He wasn't running, wasn't getting involved, looked like he didn't care. I was actually sure that he's leaving the team or there is some missunderstanding between him and the director, because it was too unusual to see him behave like that and play so poorly.

I really do feel for Spalletti. He has been one of my favorite coaches over the last 5 years, and Roma basically left him holding the bag. There is no way that a fundamentally sound ownership group would allow one of the larger clubs from the biggest city in Italy to get to the situation that they are in now.

This is a cheaply run squad, and there is no excuse why it should be run that way, to be quite honest. They have, by far, the nicest stadium in all of italy, they are the kings of the Eternal City, and yet this is what happens.

Anybody who blames Spalletti for all of this really isn't looking deep enough into the picture to see what is going on. That team needs new ownership, and immediately.

Luciano's final gift to Giallorossi
Tuesday 1 September, 2009
Luciano Spalletti left Roma with a final act of generosity – giving up two years of wages to help the club through its financial turmoil.

The Coach was widely expected to be sacked or negotiate the termination of his contract by mutual consent this morning.

Instead, when he arrived at the Villa Pacelli complex for a meeting with President Rosella Sensi, he tended his resignation.

This is a significant move on his part, as Spalletti has effectively let Roma 'off the hook’ for the wages he was owed until the contract expires in July 2011.

The same does not apply to his coaching staff, as they are set to negotiate their own contract termination separately, but the tactician has decided to give up on a great deal of money.

Roma have been struggling financially for some time and one of the main reasons for this split was the lack of funds for new players.

It is a dramatic exit for Spalletti, who in Week 1 had matched Fabio Capello’s record as the longest-serving Roma Coach by starting his fifth consecutive campaign.

At the Olimpico since 2005 and well known for his entertaining brand of football, with this club he has won two Coppa Italia trophies in 2007 and 2008, the 2007 Italian Super Cup and two Players Association awards as Best Serie A Coach in 2006 and 2007.

Claudio Ranieri was in a meeting with President Sensi this morning and his appointment will be made official later today on a one-year contract with an option for a second.
