Mou: 'They want to stop us winning' Sunday 24 January, 2010
Jose Mourinho openly accused the referee of trying to stop Inter from winning. “The only way we'd lose was if we were down to six.”
Diego Milito gave the Nerazzurri an early lead and Wesley Sneijder was sent off for sarcastically applauding the referee just 27 minutes in, but still won the derby 2-0.
“
I have already understood they won't let us seal up the Scudetto. When at Bari Bonucci is not sent off and in the derby the officials do everything to stop us winning, I see what is happening here,” he told Sky Italia television.
“
There is a different criteria. The referee asked if I would be angry if one of my players sarcastically applauded my decision, but I said no. I'd let it go. The referee should've had more common sense.
“But we understood as time went on that it was not a coincidence that referee Rocchi gave Sneijder that red card.”
In stoppages Lucio was also dismissed for a second bookable offence after giving away a penalty, which Julio Cesar saved from Ronaldinho.
“We proved everything.
We proved that the only way we were going to lose was if we went down to six men, as with seven we still would've won,” crowed Mou.
“
Inter were spectacular on a tactical, physical, psychological point of view and right from the start it was obvious we were stronger and could win comfortably.
“
The win was important, but I leave here with a strange taste in my mouth. The game was strange. I am foreign and maybe don't quite understand Italian football yet, but it's your problem and not mine.
“We were fortunate to only end up with nine men and that is why we won, not exactly comfortably, as Milan did everything they could until the end with great pride, so it was never easy.
“But we won without debate and I knew Leonardo will be the first to admit Inter deserved it.”
Goran Pandev was set to be substituted, but Mourinho postponed it so that he could take the free kick for 2-0.
“It's better to be a lucky Coach than a talented one. At that point I was lucky. A little voice told me to leave him on for another 10 seconds.”
Despite playing with 10 men for an hour, Inter remained solid and ran relatively few risks at the back.
“I knew the team was in good shape and ready to defend with seven men. Luckily this week I trained without Sneijder as I told him his only job was to counter Andrea Pirlo.
“Once he was off, the work of the others remained the same, it was just that one of the strikers had to come a little deeper to fill that space.
“Sulley Muntari and Thiago Motta did everything possible to play today despite injuries and deserve more respect from the fans.
“Davide Santon did very well, but with 10 men he had to stay back and not push as much, performing his defensive duties.
“Milan never gave in, Leonardo did everything he could with more strikers and
I was happy that Pippo Inzaghi stayed on the bench! He really worries me!”
