Ciro Ferrara admits Juventus got it wrong in the first half and missed out on victory by “a matter of inches.”
Vincenzo Iaquinta opened the scoring against Bordeaux, but the Champions League debut in Turin was only a 1-1 draw.
“I think it was clear we changed at half-time. Bordeaux are very organised, fast on the counter and good at closing up,” said Ferrara.
“We struggled in midfield and they came back at us very quickly, whereas in the second half we were far more aggressive.
“That helped us to stay further up the field, score the goal and had the game in our grasp. It's a shame that right at that moment we conceded on a set play, which we knew could cause us trouble.”
This was the tactician's Champions League debut and also Juve's first appearance in the competition since Calciopoli.
“Clearly it was our first game and we wanted to make a good impression. At this level you pay for the tiniest error.
“Of course we have time to catch up, but it is disappointing that we didn't take the chance to win by a matter of inches.”
Gianluigi Buffon was also called upon for some desperate interventions to prevent defeat, especially on ex-Siena player Fernando Menegazzo.
“It is not news that Buffon is the best goalkeeper in the world and it's a nice advantage to have him at Juventus. He performed some stunning saves, but of course we all know what he's capable of.”
There was bad news when Fabio Cannavaro, who provided the assist for Iaquinta, limped off with an upper thigh problem.
Tiago Mendes also went off with a muscular injury, joining Diego and Alessandro Del Piero on the treatment table.
“Of course we are worried by this type of injury and will see over the next few days what the tests say. We hope not to lose important players.”
Bayern Munich now lead Group A after a 3-0 win away to Maccabi Haifa.
