that explain the fuss about KoreaJapan as the official name for the WC 2002...:p

points outs about show some people can be foolishly fussy about some stupid small things..
Haha that was so stupid, even though the competition was officially called Korea/Japan, the Japanese companies printed "Japan/Korea" on the tickets, and they were ordered to re-print them. In return for the event being called Korea/Japan, the Japanese were allowed to stage the final, and they called the official mascots 'Japanese-sounding names'. How stupid...:sigh: They talk so much about unity through sport, and sportsmanship...and they have stupid feuds over things like that :sigh:

then, how come germany-russia has no rivalry? (im talking bout the soviet and berlin)
A rivalry has to come from two ways. Both the English and the Russians are quite hostile to the Germans for WWII but the Germans don't hate either the English OR the Russians.

There's so many different things that can influence the outcome of a match.

    Recent form
    Head-to-head record
    Weather
    Crowd size
    Away team time/distance to travel
    Injuries
    New manager
Motivation (most teams playing Man U treat it as the biggest game of the season)
"Need-to-win" (at times of relegation and championship deciders)
    Formation
    Derbies

    What are some others?
I hate to look like an idiot but I honestly do not understand this thread one little bit as the only thing that I know that influences the outcome of a match is goals thats all

But you can set me straight by explaining to me how the factors you mentioned do influence matches so I know what you mean

Ah yes, I remember Johan Cruyff once saying:

"If you want to win, you have to outscore your opponent by one goal at least."

The logic of that man :D

PAYING THE REFEREE, bad refereeing, valid goals called offside
    in greece,
90% of the ppl know before the match who is going to win.
nearly all the damn referees are payed.

that's why i dislike greek football sooo much...:fero::fero:

 I heard something like that from a commentator

"If they can manage to score a goal or two, and stop the other team from scoring, they should come away with a victory"

some colemanballs to whet the appetite

"And with an alphabetical irony, Nigeria follows New Zealand"

"There's going to be a real ding-dong when the bell goes."

"There is Brendan Foster, by himself, with 20,000 people"

"She's not Ben Johnson - but then who is?"

"For those of you watching in Black and White, Spurs are in the all-yellow strip"

"Apart from their goals, Norway haven't scored"

"If history repeats itself, I should think we can expect the same thing again"

"If you can't stand the heat in the dressing-room, get out of the kitchen."
