Mancini: I'm coming back!
Friday 27 March, 2009
Roberto Mancini has announced his career hiatus will be over in the summer. “In July I’ll go back to work as a Coach.”
The tactician has been on a paid holiday since he was sacked by Inter in May despite taking them to three consecutive titles and in all seven trophies over a four-year period.
His contract with the club still stands and will run for another three years, so their failure to resolve the issue means he is still paid.
“I have considered this time a holiday, albeit a longer one than usual,” Mancio told Sky Sport 24 this evening.
“I am beginning to really miss the daily grind of being a Coach, so I will go back to work from July, not August.”
This would suggest he already has a position lined up, which would also explain why Mancini met with Inter President Massimo Moratti this month.
He must first free himself from the contract and agree terms for the rescission before he is able to sign for another club.
Mancio was attending a charity derby match for former Genoa hero Stefano Borgonovo, who is suffering from Lou Gherig’s Disease.
He took the opportunity to comment on the current Sampdoria squad, most notably Antonio Cassano’s difficulties in finding a place in the Italy side.
“We seem to have a lot in common,” smiled the Coach. “Aside from our positions and technique, there is a sort of idiosyncrasy in our rapport with the Nazionale.
“But he is young and has many more chances to get into the Italy side and convince the Coach to call him.”
Mancini has always been considered one of the great talents of the Italian game, but had only 36 caps at senior level and scored four goals.
