Czechs played a solid back line with five defenders with three mids pulled back. I wasn’t sure if Portugal would even score against them, and technically they almost didn’t.

I wasn’t expecting Martinez to get this side to choke so soon. And while I’m yelling for subs in the last 20 minutes of regulation, he puts two on at 90’ who end up combining for the winner a minute later.

He looks like a genius, and yet he’s a complete idiot. His best bit of coaching was pulling Dalot right after the Czechs scored, because that boy was too lazy to cover his mark at the corner. Otherwise, why is that clown even on the touchline? He adds nothing.

Those deep defending sides you need to have more players running behind the lines. Leao is wrong choice and tbh his end product isn't anything special. Same goes to all POR players on that match. There wasn't anybody else beside Ronaldo doing some runs and on the final 3rd you didn't have many options to play the ball and when they did, that last ball was total garbage. If i was Roberto Martinez, i'd start Jota on the left, CR in the middle and Silva on the RW. Jota is sneaky player with the ability to play in the box as well.

Georgia was pretty damn good. Interesting to see them against Czechs.

Portugal look like a complete mess to me. Forget about Ronaldo. Commentator kept saying Bruno Fernandes is walking, again, walking, guess who is walking again.
Then Cancelo playing midfield.

Czechs simply dont have that quality they had 20 years ago. But when they went forward, Portugal looked vulnerable. A better team will punish Portugal. And Ronaldo cant fix the midfield and defense issues. Even if you take him off, Bruno Fernandes is still walking. Very little from Bernardo Silva too in this game.

Can't believe Martinez got another big job after Belgium.

What has he ever achieved for such big nations to hire him?
Well most of the old school portugese coaches are so backwards in their ways, mind you half of them are now coaching in Saudi now, who are they really left with? It's probably too early in Amorim's career to take an international job, they tried the Brazilian route with Scolari. Seems to me the Portugese FA wanted something modern which would allow their attacking talents to flourish and Martinez was their only option.

Roberto Martinez is a football terrorist. Bernardo Silva playing 90 min of that game is criminal. A dialogue needs to be started about players outside of Pep's system. These system players look useless when asked to think and play for their countries.
