This is a truly terrible formation, playing with 4 central midfielders FFS. Except for Pirlo and Cassano you have nobody with any flair or creativity in the team.
YOu also dont have any width. The fullbacks (espeially Abate) cant cover the flanks themselves and cross the ball consistently and that forces Cassano to drift put wide instead of being closer to goal in order to send a through ball or dribble the terrible Irish defence and score.
He should have played a 4-3-3 with Gio and CAssano, when one of them has the ball on one flank the other would drift in closer to goal and you'd always have two attackers around the box.
THis way you only have 4 central midfielders in a 20 meter radius.
This gooal doesnt change anything as regards their terrible play.
