How will your goal difference end up if France and Italy draw 0-0 where Romania lose 3-0?
It would be something like this.

---------------Goal Diff.
Holland 9 +9
Italy 2 -3
France 2 -3
Romania 2 -3

That would be very interesting. I don't know who goes through in this case since they are all tied in their direct encounters. France will def. not go through since they have failed to score against Romania and Italy.

It would be between Italy and Romania.

I just did. I doubt that scenario will happen anyway. Holland will just play their second string team and lose. I don't see why they shouldn't. This is a competetion and they are there to win it. It's not about ethics or morals, it's about putting yourself in the best position.

I for one would be shocked if Romania don't beat Holland. I would also have a great deal of respect for the dutch.

Holland will not lose on purpose.A defeat, regardless of how it takes place, shakes team morale and flow. This is one of the most impressive dutch performacnes in a major competition ifor a while now,and they will NOT take the risk of screwing that up by losing in purpose just to avoid Italy or France in the knockout phases. The players wont want to do that, nor would Van Basten.Even if Van Basten does plan to lose the game on purpose, would the entire squad go along with him?No they wont. Some players wont like the idea one bit, which would effect team harmony. The dutch squad has already been a victim of differecnes in the past, and they wont want a repeat of that again when they're in such brilliant form.

Im not saying Holland wont lose to Romania.Thats possible since Romania got the better of them in the qualifiers.Sure, form has changed, but Romania know that they can beat Holland, and they might even do that. But Holland losing on purpose is out of the question.

Fuck,if Mutu didn't blew that penalty,we wouldn't be talking now about Italy's chances to progress in the quarterfinals!I don't know how Holland will play with us,with the first team or the second(the second is with Van Persie,Robben,Vennegor...?what a team),but i'm sure that we will show again class an determination!Even if we will not qualify,we demonstrate our value...
P.S.Hope Senor will not appear now with his comments...

Or this is what the Azzurri fans are trying to convince themselves will happen.
Euro 2004, Denmark-Sweden. One result would send Italy out and that would be a draw with 2 goals or more. Guess what, that's how it went. Why wouldn't it happen again? What's denying it from happening again? Dignity? Come on guys, grow up.

They won't throw the game but they will take the game very lightly, a little too lightly and that could be enough.

On a side notem Italy and France both don't deserve to qualify anyway to be honest. They had their chances and didn't take them, it's bad enough they are waiting on a gift from Holland to help them go through. I'm pissed at how the Italians played this tournament but in truth, they wouldn't have gone far with Fuckadoni anyway.

Both Italy and France have been piss poor, and in all fairness,Romania deserve to qualify ahead of them.

The Sweden-Denmark thing was totally different.Over there, both teams needed to go through,so they wanted a result that would suit them both.Neither team was guaranteed a knockout phase spot before the game..so they played it safe and got a result that suited them both.

Over here Holland have already qualified.Plus Holland are easily the best team in the competition so far.Sweden and Denmark werent in this position 4 years ago.I repeat, the Dutch have gotten screwed over in the past because of inter-squad rifts.if Van basten brings the idea of a planned defeat forward,do you expect every single player to agree? Some playes might not like the idea, which will disrupt team harmony, not to mention their form.Do you expect the players who'd be getting their first chance in the tournament to underperform on purpose? Will those players not want to do their best so that they could be in contention for a place in the starting 11 in the next match? Will those players not want to show that they can lead Holland to victories?

If you're talking about patriotism or the lack of it,then perhaps the players WILL underperform on purpose to eliminate Italy and France. But as you yourself said in another thread..thsi isnt about patriotism. Its about whats best for you.And for a player who's been on the bench, the best for him is to perform will and show the coach and the fans that he deserves a starting place. No players, especially the ones who'v been on the bench so far, will underperform on purpose.Im sorry.I do not buy that.

Im not ruling out a Romania win,but there is simply no way that Holland will gift it to them.
