Both Italy and France have been piss poor, and in all fairness,Romania deserve to qualify ahead of them.
The Sweden-Denmark thing was totally different.Over there, both teams needed to go through,so they wanted a result that would suit them both.Neither team was guaranteed a knockout phase spot before the game..so they played it safe and got a result that suited them both.
Over here Holland have already qualified.Plus Holland are easily the best team in the competition so far.Sweden and Denmark werent in this position 4 years ago.I repeat, the Dutch have gotten screwed over in the past because of inter-squad rifts.if Van basten brings the idea of a planned defeat forward,do you expect every single player to agree? Some playes might not like the idea, which will disrupt team harmony, not to mention their form.Do you expect the players who'd be getting their first chance in the tournament to underperform on purpose? Will those players not want to do their best so that they could be in contention for a place in the starting 11 in the next match? Will those players not want to show that they can lead Holland to victories?
If you're talking about patriotism or the lack of it,then perhaps the players WILL underperform on purpose to eliminate Italy and France. But as you yourself said in another thread..thsi isnt about patriotism. Its about whats best for you.And for a player who's been on the bench, the best for him is to perform will and show the coach and the fans that he deserves a starting place. No players, especially the ones who'v been on the bench so far, will underperform on purpose.Im sorry.I do not buy that.
Im not ruling out a Romania win,but there is simply no way that Holland will gift it to them.
