:agree: having 4 teams from a singal country in the CL is ridicolous and stupid. 2 teams "max" should Enter that competition and the rest should play the Europa league, that way there will still be a big interest in the CL and more and more fans will turn to watch the EL too....
That would mean many big clubs (including us) having to play on Thursdays.

Here is the coefficient of the Italian, German, Spanish and English teams in CL and EL and then their overall coefficient in the last 5 seasons (last 4 seasons + this season so far)

CL
England 100.625
Spain 81.750
Italy 65.875
Germany 65.833

EL
Germany 54.463
England 51.725
Spain 50.541
Italy 32.700

Overall coefficient:
England 78.660
Spain 70.900
Germany 67.186
Italy 54.409
-------------------

As you can see the difference is the EL, but the Italian superiority in CL isn't really a superiority. Matter of time (actually, it's a matter of 1-2 matches) before the Germans overtake Italy even in CL.

Its not though, its actually a very good way of deciding which league is really the best. All that the CL shows you is what the best teams from every league can do. Europa League shows what the rest of the league can perform
No it doesn't, it shows how the fringe and reserve sides of Italian teams can perform, which is clearly not very well.

Lazio dropped their best player and a couple of other starters as well.

Unless these teams can make their way to the quarter finals and a chance of winning the thing, they aren't going to put in the effort otherwise.

Oh noes, that means people will have to come up with a different excuse.

But it's pretty simple: if the trend continues as it has been doing, it will only take 1 or, at most, 2 seasons before Italy is behind both France & Portugal.

That's what happens when you relegate your greatest club for no reason. What do we care, we'll be in CL year-in-year-out anyway. Enjoy.

One of Al-Jazeera sport journalists was asking and wondering something the other day... If Europa League isn't so important for the average Italian teams (referring to Palermo, Udine, etc) then why do they seek and celebrate when they reach it?

How can you field a bench/2nd team against Atletico Madrid in Spain?

Won't happen again for the next 10 years at least. Wanna bet?
A bet that lasts 10 years? Yeah, I'm really gonna remember it that long :D

Regardless, the stronger your league is (according to the official Uefa ranking,), the easier it is to get into the CL. That's just common sense.
And yeah, we shouldn't be relying on other teams to get there, but it sure would be nice if we could when worse comes to worse.

Only 2 Italian teams will qualify directly for next season's CL. And the Italian team that ends up having to play qualifiers isn't really favoured either. Most other European competitions start earlier, which leads to their teams being better prepared in most cases.
Also, playing qualifiers means being uncertain (50/50) of the CL income, means a difference in investments.

The numbers in CL are much closer than I thought they'd be. Looks like Italy deserves what they're getting.
