The two former Milan Coaches have always had a very different philosophy of the game and Capello’s time at the Bernabeu seems to be at an end after the Champions League exit.
“Capello is a great tactician, but people do not love him because his football is lacking poetry and harmony,” the veteran told ‘As’.
“His teams are based above all on the counter-attack and taking advantage of others’ mistakes. In that sense, I really don’t think he is the ideal Coach for Real Madrid.”
Deeply unpopular with players and fans alike, Don Fabio’s return to La Liga – where he won the 1998 title – has been a disappointment.
“It will be very difficult to see him here again next season. However, if at the end of the day he wins the Championship, then many will change their minds,” added Sacchi.
“It is entirely possible he still can take the title. After all, if Real can be only five points off the leaders despite losing seven times already, then this is a mediocre tournament.”
Many of his pupils at Il Grande Milan have gone on to become Coaches in their own right, including Carlo Ancelotti, Marco Van Basten and Barcelona’s Frank Rijkaard.
“Frank was a great midfielder and, above all, proved to be a wonderful person. He was intelligent as a player, so it was predictable he would have success as a tactician.”
