I would argue otherwise. I think religion restricts us as human beings from acting selfishly. Although I personally think relgion just teaches us how to be good human beings. Something that we should already know, don't lie? steal? kill? Well I guess it isn't clear to some people

I understand there are those that get in your face about it, I've had run ins with those people myself. That's why I don't do it myself, but what some atheists do is to counter them by doing the very same thing! How does that make you any different? I don't understand the logic. They preach God/religion and you everything against it....how are you any different?

I think you should pick your pronouns a little better as I resent my opinions being judged upon the actions of fundamentalist atheists as much as you resent your religion being judged by the actions of radicals. I am not the type of person who tries to push anything on anyone but since this is a forum for discussion I will say what I think.

I'm not going to lie, I feel like you ignored my point about religion imposing upon people through law and also mass media. I have a serious problem with religious groups trying to push their beliefs upon others through law and censorship of media and I refuse to respect the opinions of someone who thinks they can trample upon my rights.

Although God is never clearly mentioned in the constitution or Bill of Rights, religion played a rule in the construction of these two set of laws.

I wouldn't be so sure. Amendments are there for a reason. It really is bullshit that you have to swear in the name of God in court and shit, especially if you are of a different religion. I'm not bothered by it but I can see why some people would be and the main thing the Constitution is about is treating everyone as equals.

And as Andy quoted, I remember reading some of the founding fathers were atheists themselves and that's why the Constitution isn't based on religion. Really seems silly that the gov't should follow a book with made-up stories in this day and age, especially when it doesn't affect anything in the least. It just riles up people and politicians know that so they use it to separate them even more.
