With outside help, you can definitely catch up faster. Self-learning is tough and not all people are up to it. She is a language freak, so I expect that from her, Arabic was her sixth language.

And here's a question, do you want to learn Arabic (the formal language) or a certain dialect?

If you speak the formal Arabic language, almost every Arabic speaking person will understand you; however, this does not mean that you will fully understand their dialect.

You will understand them IF they speak with you the formal Arabic. With time though, you will get accustomed to the dialect they are speaking.

Try to enroll in a school and I am willing to help.
