I think he had to potential to be one of the best in the World..like many others but I dunno what it is about some Brazilians..

Adriano, Robinho..so much waste lol
Pato as well

edit

I think what made everyone really upset is the way he started off at Juve, his first couple of games were simply outstanding, it really did feel like we had our own Kaka (the good version)

I still regret what "could have been" with Diego. But yea, I agree with the unanimous idea that he joined at the wrong time.

He was amazing in the Bundesliga with Werder, tearing it up big time. Fell out with Felix Magath, and was a "decent"/conservative player at Atletico. That rocket against Barcelona though...:touched:

He's the perfect player for Allegri's AMC role in 4-3-1-2 ...or when Conte played 3-6-1 for a few games placing Marchisio as an AMC...lol.

Many could've been stories in football. He's one of those. We've moved on, he's moved on.

Football journalism is harsh though, and it's the results at the end of the day which label flop or success.

In Del Neri's pre-season he was playing very well in a flat 442 formation. He played his unpreferred MC role there, just like he did with FC Porto by the way, and he actually did well. However, Marotta decided to cash in on him as clearly LDN had no interest in utilizing him.

I recall going thru many archive videos of full length games with Ferrara, and really he wasn't "thaaaat bad" or piss poor. His passing was good, but the players wouldn't finish. He would create chances, but the end product would rarely result in a goal. He dropped back to midfield, and just retained possession...sometimes gave away passes (like Pirlo on a bad Sunday lol...dare I say this, please don't crucify me). I can't quite pinpont my finger on it, but the whole team was inconsistent that year. There was that stellar performance at the Olimpico in Rome, or the match against Inter in San Siro where he was literally involved in every pass (can't remember the result though!) - there's a YouTube clip for that specific match, I'll dig it up.

There's also a nice analytical article about Diego's Juve campaign and why did not work out. I'll try to dig that too...

Moving on...

We have Hernanes now, who's a similar type of player, and I'm very excited to see what he's capable of bringing to the table.

He's still dead to me.
