Would be interesting to see if he ever starts alongside both Villa and Costa, or if he's just signed as a backup for either two.

If anyone can make it work, it's Simeoni.

It still bugs me how we gave Melo a second season but not Diego. Should have been the other way around imo.
on conte's book

It was only fitting that Conte would return (after coaching apprenticeships at Arezzo, Atalanta, Bari and Siena, respectively) to guide Juventus in the post-Calciopoli period where he has won the Scudetto twice on the trot. But before he returned, he said no once to directors of the Old Lady in his usual, candid, no-holds-barred manner when Diego refused to play in his proposed 4-2-4 system: "You have to make your own choices. But if a player, whoever he may be, is able to call the shots, you are on the wrong road... I can't be your manager." (Chapter 10)

Yea I remember how crazy we all were when we signed him. Easily the biggest signing in terms of hype in the past decade. Didn't work out for him sadly but he's doing ok.
:agree: I remember, I was not a part of Tuz back then, but Diego was one of my favorite players at the time and we signing him was too perfect to be real

Still one of my favourite players. Just a shame that he is dependent on a team to be built around him
That's a myth though as later proven in his first spell at Atletico and then his second spell at Wolfsburg. He can play in a role other than a trequartista and can do much better at times. Playing as a second striker being the most suited for him from what I've seen.

It's just that probably during his spell here, he wasn't ready to make that adjustment at the time and the club was much weaker than to either convince him or force him to give it a go at least.

Very interesting. I knew i had seen him saying something similar from his time at Juve in one of his interviews. That the "new system" wouldn't fit him.

On the same interview he also says something about either Agnelli or Marotta.... Translated from Portuguese it's something like "When the new Italian man came, he wanted an Italian revival kind of thing and "got rid" of all the foreigners. I was one of them..."

I think he was unlucky to play for Juventus at a time we weren't our best. And don't think he did half as bad as some people say. Even though i also think he never achieved his full potential, he could've been a completely different player had he "clicked" with whatever Conte would come to propose.

Am I missing something? I mean, Diego was sold even before Conte was signed. And it's only natural to disagree with a suggestion from someone outside the club, especially when the system suggested is unfamiliar with him.

Diego staying would help Delneri's Juve a lot (just imagine Conte's Juve without Pirlo), but then again if we didn't have that horrible season we won't be coached by Conte, winning our third star and so on.

I think that quote said a lot more about players like Ziegler and Melo who were sent to another club before they even had their chance with Conte.

Yes how did Conte have influence on transfers 1 season beforehand?

Diego would have been good under Of The Blacks, but hindsight is 20/20

Apparently that quote happened before Ferrara was signed permanently, and I believe it was also after Diego was bought. Secco and Conte had some talk as it looked like the latter would become the next coach at the time, and Conte proposed his 4-2-4 to Secco. As some of you might knew already, Conte wanted Robben and Walcott but Secco went for Diego anyway. After Diego was signed, Conte said he'd put Diego as SS. MAYBE that's when Diego refused his idea as that translated exerpt implied.

« Gli organi di informazione parlano con sempre più insistenza dell'arrivo a Torino di Diego, l'attaccante brasiliano del Werder Brema. Quando mi viene chiesto un parere, esprimo a Secco qualche riserva: "Nel mio gioco non è essenziale uno come lui. Con una rosa di attaccanti come Del Piero, Trezeguet, Amauri e Iaquinta non abbiamo problemi". Su questo punto lui non ribatte. Capisco che non approva e che ha altri progetti. Insisto: "Piuttosto andiamo a trovare esterni molto forti".
And then instead of Conte, Secco hired Ferrara....

Diego is still one of my favourite players and has been ever since he hit the scene at Santos i just wish things worked out better for him at Juve even though i appreciate he wouldn't have succeeded under Conte, he was about the only good thing we had in our team during his torrid time at Juve and that match against roma i will never forget how he robbed cassetti at the half way line and out did riise for pace and dat finish...
