Rewatched Juventus vs. Palermo. There was a big difference between Diego and Pastore. It was not about how the two teams worked, that if Palermo was a "team" whilst Juve of that time not, but some details, i.e. Pastore could make great pass under pressure of 3-4 opposite players whilst Diego could only pass back o keep possession but unable to pass the ball forward.

Diego is unlucky. He may not be able to carry an entire team on his shoulders, but that doesn't make him a bad player. His vision, and ability to make precision point passes through the middle are up there with some of the best in Europe, however and unfortunately, most teams buying him, give him more responsibility than he can handle, for his kind of game. To see, the real Diego, the most comfortable one, on the ball, he needs to be filled into a team where his primary responsibility is to do what he's good at. But most importantly, with the right kind of support and movement around and in front of him. Put Diego in this Juventus team and even though he may not tactically fit in the best way possible, he would be a devastating player because the players around him have more specific roles. I think he's one of the best players to have around for a 4231 formation. Not his fault he got sold. He deserved another season at the very least.

exactly right. he is underrated because he fails in team carrying roles which he is not good at but is very good in a high playmaking position.

I won't go as far as saying he sucks. But he's definitely overrated. No doubt about it.

Me? I was excited when we signed him. We made a mistake by thinking we could build a team around him. The Diego of Werder was different to our's and Wolfsburg's. He was indeed average to our play.
