Clint Dempsey has reportedly signed for Fulham and has obtained a work permit from the English FA. The deal is supposedly to be worth $4.1 million, the highest transfer fee for an MLS player in history.

It's lovely having one of our top players move on to the EPL, however I'm going to be worried he won't receive enough playing time with Routledge and Boa Morte in the ranks. But good luck to Dempsey and hopefully he finds a way to break through the side... I'm sure after Bocanegra and Mcbride have secured first team roles, Coleman will give Clint a proper chance.

Routledge and McBride indeed are tough competitors. But you have to be honest, if he doesn't play at Fulham, he just doesn't cut it at international level.

At the international level? We already saw that Dempsey can compete at the international level as he was probably our best player at the World Cup.

The US still didn't reach the 2nd round, Andy. That's just as good as Togo, and most of their players don't cut it at international level IMO.

That's just a skewed argument not worth looking into. By that logic, Belgium is on the same playing field as Lesotho.

Apparently Montella is about to join Fulham on loan. Bit of a strange one, would have thought someone good might have tried to get him.

But my point is, you cannot judge the success on one player just by the nation he happens to be from. Romania does not have much success in football history, however that did not stop Gheorghe Hagi from becoming a world class player. Dempsey has a lot of talent and it's his job to work hard and develop it under the reigns of a decent manager.

Well that's true, but although Dempsey might have been good at the World Cup he was not outstanding. Dempsey still has a long way to go and quite honestly there's also simply a lot of luck involved in developing into a great player.

Yeah but then again Arena did not even play him against the Czechs and brought him in as a sub against Italy if I remember correctly.
