Adams Tempted To Coach In Italy
5/25/2005 1:06:00 PM
The former Arsenal captain Tony Adams may resume his managerial career in Italy, according to a BBC report. Apparently ex-England centre-back Adams has been interviewed by Serie B sides Verona and Torino following discussions with Juventus about the possibility of becoming their defensive coach.
Adams, 38, has previously expressed a desire to coach abroad, although he does not speak any Italian.

He made 669 appearances in a glittering career with Arsenal - his only club as a player - but resigned as Wycombe Wanderers manager last November after an unimpressive start to the season.

Adams was in Italy to continue his ‘mentoring’ work with Adrian Mutu, who has been pursuing his rehabilitation after drugs problems by attending the Sporting Chance clinic which Adams founded for sports people with addictive problems. Adams himself is a recovering alcoholic who has been ‘on the wagon’ for some nine years now and who has been a help and inspiration to others with various problems.

Mutu, who was offered a contract by Juventus after being sacked by Chelsea, was banned for seven months last November after testing positive for cocaine and Adams has been helping him get his life back together.

Adams met Juve coach Fabio Capello - whom he has described as his managerial hero - to discuss the possibility of continuing to mentor Mutu next season.

And it is understood he also discussed the possibility of becoming Juve’s defensive coach, although he was not subsequently offered the position
