Portugal v Holland 2004 - he was shit
Portugal v England 2004. - he was shit
    Portugal v Brazil 2007 - weak brazil
Man UTD v Lille - weak direct opponent and he wasn't all that great in that match anyhow
Man UTD v Benfica - ditto
Man UTD v Europe XI - haven't seen it.
In Euro 2004 he was the best player, I don't know what you're saying.
Lille outplayed Manchester, weak direct opponent i'm sure.
A weak Brazil? You're saying Brazil at the World Cup was better, they struggled against Ghana lucky the refs picked favourites again.

so out of 90+ minutes of play he had 1 minute of "class" and you are using that as proof??????
There was more than 1 link just incase you didn't realize. During 90 minutes you receive the ball many times you'll pass it back, you'll run up, you might lose it, do you expect him to have the ball the full 90 minutes? Whatever you do, don't give me that crap about him not being a team player.

Some people just have so much against him.

its impossible to say who is the best player in the world because is Ronaldo near as good of a goalkeeper as buffon? or as defender as an in-form cannavaro? There is no such thing as an over best player in the world but i think by far the closest without a doubt is christiano ronaldo

 It's already three years ago, but i'm quite certain that he was pretty poor in all of euro 2004.

    Yes.

    What Bes said.

Some people just have so much against him
Some people are just too infatuated with him.

In my opinion Kahn was the best in 02 World Cup. Vieri was great too.

I think people have much against C.Ronaldo because of his diving, they take that as an accuse to trash any player they hate.

Why are we talking about Euro 2004 when I thought we were talking about this season? :wth: Not directed at you, MDJ17 -- just wondering why this is bring brought up at all for any relevance.

The kid was 19 years old at Euro 2004, and that was three years ago.

Sheesh. We should be talking about Bobo Vieri for that matter if we're going to dredge up irrelevant things from the past. Ronaldino has had an utterly under-achieving (for his standards) 2006-7 in my book, and I wouldn't lavish the Pallon d'Or on him. Or even Shevchenko for that matter.

Most players have good years and not-so-good years. So why does this discussion keep turning back to this greatest-of-all-time thinking? We're not trying to compare the guy to Alfredo Di Stefano or something here.

That is not an excuse to trash the player they hate
That is the reason y they hate the player

    there's a difference
Actually, I think it's about supporting pre-existing beliefs/preferences. People hate C Ronaldo not because of his diving, they just hate C Ronaldo. His diving becomes a pretense or focus for it.

Hey, I love Nedved da morire, as they say in Italy. But I would have to agree with the general consensus that he is, in fact, a world class diver.

Fans of a player tend to gloss over his failings. While detractors make them out to be the monstrosities they are not.
