I chat with work colleagues, friends there is no one who is panicked, the contrast is striking when you turn on the TV we are on the verge of apocalypse because an old man is dead (probably of old age).

Deaths in France since 01/01/2020:

Total: 101,666

Including:
- cancers: 24,790
- cardiovascular: 23,333
- tobacco: 12,500
- alcohol: 6,833
- road accidents: 583
- murders: 161
- COVID19: 4
The media is making it big perhaps, but would you rather they don't talk about it? I don't get why would someone get triggered by that

Because it's stupid & another cash grabbing opportunity since regular flu is just as deadly while death occurs all around us yet media mentions nothing of starvation which kills 20k daily. Why should media hype it? He posted numbers that answer your question fully. Why hype some shit that's almost non-existant and not address important things? Hell, even if you believe it then there's not even cure for it and there's not even some prevention, so why make it number 1 news when it killed 4 people. The number of cured people gets higher daily... shocking.

If a gunman opens fire in a mall and kills 20 people would you still post these stats? 20 deaths is nothing in comparison, right? Actually some gun nuts in US do just that after mass shootings.

This is much deadlier than the flu by any metric. Stop this BS.

Seriously you’re just talking of your ass right now. Comparing an already existing disease to something completely new is ridiculous.
Well, the hype became huge after 3% death rate. Everybody ignores SARS in Asia that had 10% like 15 years ago which was hitting way harder and you could recognize it easier.

Like I said, corona deals with higher temperature, caugh, sneezing, problems with breathing, which is pretty much like a regular flu.

Completely new diseases happen quite often. This is not the first time. We've seen the invasion of H1N1 which disappeared as fast as it appeared while countries spent billions to prevent it. Vaccines were sometimes used but mostly to protect the most wounded population, then the virus became seasonal like every other. We've seen swine flu, birds flu, SARS and others just in the past 10 years. Ebola happened like 6 years ago and out of 25k people infected it killed like 11k people. Yet, despite all that, corona is getting the biggest hype ever, even in the countries like France where it killed 4 people.

They do what they want but the inconsistency of the media and the politicians tire me and unnecessarily panic people, they talk all day to say nothing. Wash your hands, don't shake hands, put your hand in front of your mouth when you cough, if to tell us that a preventive message is enough.

Besides that, the politicians signed a decree to ban any gathering of more than 5000 people for sporting events (lyon psg was allowed tonight with the supporters but the Paris Marathon was forbidden), theater, concert were cancelled, but the metro, trains that are microble nests where millions of people transit, remain open.

Maybe it's a virus that is only transmitted when you're having fun, not when you're working!

WHO confirms that the epidemic in China is in continuous decline, all regions included. Outside the initial epidemic zone, the CFR is 0.7%. @Le___Doc @LehmannDrC

*Lalalalalalala* Didn't hear.

This what evil, fear mongering media want's you to believe. Is a all only for clicks and views.

I'd be VERY surprised if People are actually dying from this 'Virus'. But even if, why report about it? We are not speaking of millions and it's only old people anyway.

I'd have prefered for them scientists and for the media to just tell no one about it.

What is this "hype" you talk about, it just being reported? Because I've seen NOT ONE news broadcast, article, anything that says anything other than "do not panic, go about your life, it will be ok." If everyone gets sick at one time though, you don't think that's going to be problematic for society regardless of deaths?

Also SARS is a coronavirus, by the way. Who is to say it cannot mutate into something more along those lines of deadly?

:lol2: just like everyone ignores other parts of the posts when it suits their need. Nobody cared when death rates were higher in the past, even hitting 10%, but now 3% is HUGE and the biggest problem that humanity if facing. Not to mention the symptoms of the regular flu.

But God bless the media for giving amazing advises like put your hand on your mouth when you cough. Also, wash your hands more often! It's gonna stop spreading.

So far they describe corona as a fever, higher temperature, caugh, sneezing, having problems breathing. Are you aware it's just like the regular flu?

In 2002 in Asia when SARS appeared, death rate was 10% over there but symptoms were easily recognized and it hit harder unlike corona that has way too many common things with the regular flu. After a couple of months they managed to controll the disease (SARS) easier, though.
it’s called a coronavirus because of the way it looks under a microscope, not because of its symptoms. While they do have overlapping systems, the influenza virus and covid19 look and are distinctly different on the molecular level.

10% of 24,000 in a highly localized, contained area or 3% of millions that cannot be quarantined. Which is higher?

News about corona became like number 1 thing in the world even if the reports say 1 new death case in San Marino.

Oh, it might mutate. Just like any other virus could mutate and wipe 1/3 of the population. But that's a huge might that doesn't happen that often. Media coverage surely won't lower the chances for that.

Why would a global event not be global news? You issue just seems to be you're tired of hearing the word "coronavirus," which is fine. However that doesn't mean this should not be talked about. Otherwise I really don't understand what your end goal here is.

i still dont remember getting an answer from you about why the chinese government quarantined hundreds of millions of its own people and potentially tanked its own economy which was a house of cards on a knifes edge even before the coronavirus situation. why are other govts not downplaying the issue but imposing their own restrictions to fight the spread despite massive economic slowdowns certain to follow?

i want to know, in your opinion, why the chinese and other major governments took those steps despite it almost certainly leading to a global recession down the line? please do tell us what possible motivations there are for them to overhype this?
