The problem is that Mandzukic isn't really an ideal forward for counters... Dybala-Morata or even Dybala-Zaza would have been better if the idea was to counter. But Mandzu is our best CF to partner with Dybala right now, so we ended up sitting deep in the first half + and looked totally inept on the counter. And we didn't at all make use of Mandzu's ability to hold up the ball and win aerial battles against their defenders by sending long balls out from the back to limit their pressing... Instead we tried to pass our way through their pressing and failed miserably at it. Very weird tactics in the first half.
True. Sitting deep is one thing, but letting them pass is the other. Even when they were close to our penalty box we didn't tackle them aggressively. That's just not gonna work.

Not sure if mentioned already but the last six fixtures in which we drew the first leg of a knock out CL game at home we overturned the result and qualified each time. Can anyone confirm this statistics and break it down for us?

I think we missed Alex Sandro yesterday. He's one of our important elements in our counter-attacking game.
Evra was just too slow and ineffective going forward to cause any threat down the flank.

Bayern defence was a joke. If we had started playing our game from the first minute we would have won this game.

Everything is still open and we cad do it.

Imo the real problem was our midfield, Khedira and Marchisio just didnt show up. We couldnt keep ball for more than 1 min in the first half, thats just embarassing.
I expect to see Chiellini and Alex Sandro in the return leg with 352 beign played.
Our best midfielder today was fucking Hernanes ffs.
Also Morata gave good substitution was really lively and made some trouble for the Bayern defence.

:agree:

He also just isn't quick enough to keep up with a winger like Robben anymore, was beaten multiple times. Alex Sandro's athleticism would be appreciated against Robben.

Thats called beeing naive, and nothing wrong with italian mwntality if you execute it right.

Consider supporting a different club
That comment though

References Arsenal losing to Barca many times and still attacks them... How'd that work out yesterday?

Worst example ever.

Call me delusional, but If we had been playing with the right approach from minute 1. Then we would have won 3-1 IMO.

We are at the same level as Bayern and Barca, but we didn't show it in the first 64 mins

and that's why we do have a chance to qualify, regardless of bayern's impressive home record. it's not that bayern became overconfident or careless at 0-2, as some reports suggest. when we grew some balls in the middle of the 2nd half, we earned our well deserved draw by our own.

gds: 1st bm goal wasn't offside, a penalty should have been awarded against vidal, 2nd goal should not have stood due to lewa's foul on bonucci during the build-up to that goal

We scored a lot goals like that.Bonuci's goal against Roma came to my mind.No referees would call that offside.

Sturaro.Plays better in CL than in Serie A.
The rules are clear, when a player is interfering with play and in this case obstructing buffons view, its offside. The ref yesterday was incompetent.

The referee fucked us big time yesterday, that penalty and that foul over Bonucci... everything could've been different.

Nothing is decided yet and this team showed we can play on par with every team in the world. We can do this.

Come on the first goal wasnt offside! He was close but not interfering in sight or movement
Penalty should not been awarded Vidal`s hand barely moved and was close to his body - Should it been opposite (Bayern shooting on our player`s hand) you would all say it was a good call by the ref!
The 2nd Bayern goal shouldnt have stood as there was a clear foul in the build up!
As for the ref he deserves a rating of 3/10 since he didnt call for many fouls on our players!
Also that blind linesman who didnt see the ball moving over the line twice was something else - If he cant see these things he should retire!
Anyway I have a feeling we will do it in Germany with an assist by A.Sandro! (Bayern will surely be the better side and will dictate most of the play)
Could Chiellini be back for that tie?
BTW we really miss Vidal in that game as he could have destroyed so many Bayern attacks - Khedira simply isnt Vidal!

I saw that too... I think it's for Europa and CL...

2013-14) EL Rof16: Fiorentina 1-1 home, 1-0 away win
2002-03) CL QF: Barcelona 1-1 home, 2-1 away win
1997-98) CL QF: Dynamo Kiev 1-1 home, 4-1 away win
1994-95) EL SF: Borussia Dortmund 2:2 home, 2-1 away win
1972-73) CL QF: Ujpesti 0:0 home, 2-2 away (away goals)

That's all I could find. Apparently we don't draw at home in European knockout rounds very often... :D

Loved the comeback. But we were dominated like crazy, couldn't cross the half line with Bayern insane pressure, which should be expected from Pep's team yet Allegri didn't anticipate this which baffle me. I loved Mandzukic but IMO in this game we needed someone like Morata more who can run into defenders with the ball, someone we can play long ball too into open spaces. Khedira was catastrophic, barely running, don't know why he played. This should be a massive reality check for our management, that we need 2-3 world class players especially after selling two last year. Those kind of players gives you confidence, strike fear in your opposition...Bayern clearly took their foot off the gas ( even Allegri admitted this ) which allowed us to come back in the game.
We pratically need a miracle to go trough in munich, but you never know, maybe the fact that we would have nothing to lose could be an advantage.

Vidal hanball was a clear penalty for us. Everything would have been different if we had scored from it.

Refs are killing us in CL for 3rd straight year. That's a fact.
