The quality of the league is a function of the quality of the league management and the quality of the teams. On both fronts the gap is widening compared to the Germans, Spanish and most of all the British.
You are assuming that the rest of the Serie A teams will get their act together soon and start having good performances in Europe while Serie A leadership will work on fixing the brand. I dont see that as inevitable. Serie A leadership is just too bad and I dont see it getting better soon. The gap with England, Germany and Spain will increase because they have good management, and great marketing (especially EPL). Consequently, it will become increasingly more difficult for the rest of Serie A big teams to get their act together the more that gap widens. EPL teams will get richer while Milan and Inter will get poorer and the catching up task becomes more difficult.
So perhaps until we see some serious efforts at renewal from the Serie A leadership (the racist guy and his ilk), we might be better off being the only CL team in Italy. In other words, Since Serie A will probably continue to hold us back financially in an increasing manner as the other leagues strike better deals, our best scenario might be to take as much of the relatively shrinking Serie A money pool as we can.
Juve is like having a great company in a country that is falling economically. As long as the economy is falling, its better to take as much money as possible. Sooner or later the economy will make it too difficult to compete.
As written having a country in a poor economic state doesn't help. Plus the italian mentality which doesn't make games that much entertaining compared to the 3 leagues is there as well.
Why would someone watch a minor game (but even big ones) if the game is all about defending and not letting other scores. It's boring.
Unlike in Bundes,Liga and PL where the football is more about speed and quality. While here it's all about defending and tactics.
La Liga and Bundes has a much lower local deal than Serie A but they sell much better internationally. Leading la Liga to gain 1,5b per year with local+international while Serie A even tough we have a local deal for 986m/y international gains are less than 300m.
Dunno if it's possible but to change the italian mentality i'd remove points for draws. Like someone suggested (dun remember who) if you draw 0-0 no points given to anyone.
I think it'd makes things more entertaining for those watching.
To that if you wanna make a league more interesting the difference in tv money between the first and the last shoudn't be more then the double.
While we have Juventus gaining 108m we have teams getting 15m or less.
