Wenger has lost it, I've sympathized with him the past few years because he was working under such a tight budget, but now he's got the money and hasnt even addressed our most glaring weaknesses, on top of that this new formation of his has completely killed our fluidity and its harming Ozil especially.
Must have been influenced by Germany's 4-1-4-1 to use that shit. Clearly, I don't think it's a good idea. Ozil didn't even shine in on the wings when he was there for Germany.

Was quite amusing watching Hamann and Souness on Tuesday and then Ballack on Wednesday all devoting extended periods of Sky's CL coverage to criticising Wenger for not getting a proper defensive midfielder.

Hamann and Souness were, of course, bemoaning the lack of players such as themselves in the Arsenal team.
Wenger himself knows we need a DM, though watching us play against sides that counter attack us,l I am now inclined to believe that even if we had a DM, our problems will not be solved. Our team doesn't defend as a unit, and even when players press the ball, usually its an individual thing, there isn't any sort of strategy to how we press teams, its just individual initiatives by players willing to put a shift in ala Sanchez and Welbeck sometimes.

They did? Ah well, they got outbid by Wolfsburg it seems
Yup, we tried to sign him but got outbid. Wenger just doesn't have the willingness to spend on defensive minded players, it was the same with William Carvalho this summer, he didn't sign him because of a few million euros difference in our valuation vs Sporting evaluation.

Ya, I agree, i don't think he had a good WC at all.

Italy just got it's 4th spot in the coefficient table back from Portugal.

Let's see if Italian teams can do more of the same next matchday,
The hand-wringing and moaning over losing the 4th spot to Portugal was hilarious, Portugal will lose their 18+ point coefficient from next season, and they'll automatically drop down to fifth (barring a huge disaster from Italian teams this season)…the encouraging thing for Italy is, the German teams (besides Bayern and Dortmund) look pretty weak in Europe at the moment. Same as the French/Portuguese teams this season.

So far this season Italy has more coefficient than EPL and the Bundesliga, only La Liga is ahead :D

Napoli dropping to the EL was perhaps not such a bad thing.

That's the thing. I don't think Italy is ready to have more than 2 teams in the CL anyway. Juve and Roma are the only two strong teams in Italy ATM who can compete against the top Euro clubs. Let the other Serie A clubs battle it out in the EL, much higher chance of gaining points/winning the tournament…sort of like how Germany overtake Italy in the first place.

EDIT: @Trequartista, do you have a link to this? Or you just get it from Wikipedia :D?

It's not updated yet up to today. I calculated this week's results and Italy is at 4.166 (Russia too ), second only to Spain with 4.357.

Ligue 1 is getting blasted by Russia

Portugal up there for the same reason i guess?
Yep. They got 18.8 points (which is outstanding) in 2010-11 as they had 3 EL semifinalists, with Porto winning it.

- - - Updated - - -

They had two teams win there though, and one in the Champions League while another had their asses handed to them. Italy had one draw and three wins in the EL in addition to two wins in the CL, so shouldn't Italy be higher up? Odd system.
Napoli didn't get points for joining the EL by getting kicked out of the CL while all the EL Russian teams got points from reaching it since they didn't get there by dropping from CL, I think.
