Chelsea launched their defence of last season’s Champions League crown with a 2-2 home draw against Juventus at Stamford Bridge.
Brazilian wonderkid Oscar netted a quickfire brace midway through the second half to give the Bianconeri a mountain to climb. But the visitors responded to the challenge, striking back ahead of the interval through Vidal before grabbing a priceless equaliser when Quagliarella slotted the ball past Cech with nine minutes remaining.
The Blues claimed their first victory in Group E with a 4-0 success over Norsdjaelland in Denmark. Mata found the target either side of half time, while David Luiz and Ramires pitched in with a goal apiece to record a resounding final scoreline.
Tougher times, however, were to come in Chelsea’s trip to face Ukrainian champions Shakhtar at the Donbass Arena. Alex Texeira fired Lucescu’s side into an early lead, with Fernandinho doubling the advantage following the interval. Oscar reduced the deficit in the dying stages, but it proved too little too late for the Londoners.
With a burning desire for redemption in their sights, Chelsea returned to winning ways courtesy of a spectacular 3-2 triumph at Stamford Bridge. Torres put the hosts in front, only for Willian to draw Shakhtar level moments later. Oscar swung the encounter back in Chelsea’s favour with his fourth European goal shortly before half time, but Willian again silenced Stamford Bridge with another equaliser. As the game drew towards its conclusion, Moses stooped to head a stoppage time winner and send the home faithful into delirium.
