200 countries to get Youth Cup TV action

PETALING JAYA: The Champions Youth Cup (CYC) matches, which will be hosted by Malaysia next month, will be televised to more than 200 countries.

The Under-19 tourney will see 14 world-famous football clubs -- including AC Milan, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Barcelona and Juventus -- play alongside national youth teams from Qatar and Malaysia," said CYC promoter Jonathan Price.

It will be played Aug 8-19 in seven stadiums in five cities throughout Malaysia.

"Fans can be assured of world-class fare, and also have the opportunity to watch the next generation of football stars from these clubs," said Bukhari Che Muda, chief operating officer of TV9.

TV9, a subsidiary of Media Prima Bhd, has been appointed one of the host broadcasters of the inaugural event.

The station will telecast a total of nine matches live, including the two quarter-finals, a semi-final and the final. Three matches will be telecast on a delayed basis.

In addition, NTV7 will be showing highlights from all the matches.

The live matches include PSV Eindhoven vs Chelsea (Aug 8), FC Porto vs Manchester Utd (Aug 9), Flamengo vs Arsenal (Aug 10), Bayern Munich vs Chelsea (Aug 12) and FC Internazionale vs Manchester Utd (Aug 13).

Tickets for the CYC football tournament are on sale now at all Watson outlets in the Klang Valley, Alor Star, Kuching, Malacca and Kuantan.

Right, okay, so most likely nobody's really interested in this, but this is probably the closest thing to Juventus coming down to my country lol

Our Youth Team in Malaysia for the Champions Youth Cup

Fourteen clubs, among them Juventus and two national teams, all “Under 20”, i.e. made up of players born after the 1st of January 1987, make up the roster of teams participating in the Champions Youth Cup (kind of like a Champions League for youth teams), set to take place in Malaysia in August. The tournament is organized by G 14 (the association representing the fourteen most important clubs in Europe) to offer these clubs’ younger players the opportunity to show their skills on a prestigious international stage. The tournament is organized in four round-robin groups, and will take place from the 8th of August to the 19th.

Juventus will send their own youth team and departure for Malaysia is planned for the 3rd of August. The first game, against the Qatar national team, will be played in Kuantan on the 9th. On the 11th they will play against Paris Saint Germain and then against Barcelona on the 13th, always on the same pitch. The first two in each group will qualify for the second phase of the tournament, which will take place in Kuala Lumpur.

The other teams taking part in the tournament are: the hosts, the Malaysian Under 20 national team, plus Flamengo, AC Milan, Ajax Amsterdam, Arsenal, Boca Juniors, Inter Milan, FC Porto, Manchester United, PSV Eindhoven, Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

Early birds Paris St Germain in high spirits

KUALA LUMPUR: Paris St Germain are the first to arrive for the inaugural Champions Youth Cup (CYC) and they landed in high spirits for a much-awaited tournament that features 14 top club sides.

Coach David Bechkoura said on arrival at the the KL International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang yesterday: “This is our first trip to this part of the world and everyone is excited. It is going to be an interesting tournament for us.”

PSG are in Group B, which will be based in Kuantan. They will open their campaign on Aug 9 against Barcelona.

Their other group matches are against Juventus and Qatar.

Arriving early will give the French side the advantage to get used to the local conditions.

Their rivals are scheduled to arrive on Saturday.

Bechkoura has brought a strong side.

Some of the players to watch out for include their only two foreign players in the squad – defender Yao Mickael (Ivory Coast) and striker Nkoum Cedric (Cameroon).

They also have talented young strikers in Reysa Soudant and Jeremy Courbera.

The duo played for their national Under-16 team this year.

Another striker to note is Ted Bolongo, a member of the national Under-17 team last year.

    Hello hello

Communication wise Ayub Daud speaks English and there's a translator but that's pretty much it :D rampulla speaks a bit of English here and there I think. He and the team were very very friendly

We greeted them at the airport (after waiting for two bloody hours lol), took some pics, and sent them off. Today, there was some gala launching thing, and we cheered them on when they were presented, took more pics, etc

They were also kind enough to give out Juve pins and keychains to us lol, but basically we just hung out, took more pics, laughed here and there, did some introduction, exchanged gifts etc

    :)

    ok photos

    No pics for me.

Anyway, here is what Chiarenza said today:

"This is a solid group with excellent potential for improvement. We're going into this adventure with the right spirit, wanting to measure ourselves against different, unusual opponents; then afterwards we'll be able to assess our strength"
