Buffon wanted to leave. He had agreed to join Milan but the deal fell through at the last minute. He did not spit on the money.

Trezeguet as well as Camo also tried to force their way out but couldn't find buyers.

Alex and as far as I know Nedved are the only two who really wanted to stay.

Edit: Zambrotta wanted to stay too as mentioned before.
How do we know this is true? Or what was true? Newspaper talk etc really played with. The only certainty is those that actually left.

Zambrotta has said it in interviews and talked about it in his autobiography. I think that's a pretty credible source.

As I understand Cannavaro also really wanted to stay but the offer was too good and the money was needed.

Thuram is the only one I really hate from that lot. Zambrotta I don't like but the rest are fine.

There isn't one source anywhere to confirm this. Real Madrid already had who they consideree the best in the world ( Casillas) so I would be suprised if this is true.

He did in fact agree to sign for Milan though.
I don't remember the source but it was circulating through all media. At one point, casillas was so terrible and made so many errors that mourinho benched him for a while.

Why?

Did you read what I posted in the previous page?

I think it was a fake rumour made for clicks. Just like the Alex Ferguson and Del Piero phone call.

People don't seem to understand that most of the players who left in 2006 were told to leave by the club.

Buffon had already agreed to join AC Milan and the deal only collapsed at the last minute because Milan were then dragged into the Calciopoli scandal as well.

Posting this again for anyone who hasn't read it:

Gianluca Zambrotta has revealed some excruciating details in his book during the Calciopoli scandal that led to him leaving Juventus for Barcelona.

Zambrotta disclosed a lot of personal details that involved his feelings during the 2006 World Cup in his book ‘Una vita de terzino’ .

The 37 year old defender also revealed a lot of truth regarding his move to Barcelona during Calciopoli scandal.

“My conscience was clean. Why did I ever have to pay for a fault that was not mine?,“ he asked rheoterically.

”I never understood the rush Juve had to sell me. I was never asked to stay to be part of the new beginning.”

“I honestly never really wanted to leave but in truth I was sold. I had just finished putting together a new house in Torino. When I went to Juventus headquarters to meet with Barca’s executives, Juve had already signed the documents to sell me.

“Back in the day, Alessio Secco even advised [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic to accept any important offer he might have gotten and leave.

Any Juve player that would have been asked to the club had been sold. Those who stayed at Juve never really had a concrete offer to leave or just simply were offered important contracts in the club, unlike me.

“It really hurt me when the media started the traitor story which caused the fans to hate me. I kept expecting the club to deny and clarify what happened. It only came two years later when it was already too late.

At the end of the day had Calciopoli not occurred, I would have never left Juventus. And the scandal was certainly not my fault.”

Zambrotta also added that legendary Juventus keeper would have been sold to AC Milan but the deal could not go ahead as Milan were also involved in Calciopoli

“Not everyone knows this but Buffon had already closed the deal with Milan,“ he confessed.

”But did not go through because they were at risk too [during Calciopoli].”

“Juve had the necessity of selling many stars in order to compensate the lack of profit they received from the sponsors. They kept some, but not all.

If they had not sold me, Ibra, Cannavaro, Thuram and Vieira, they would have gone bankrupt.”
Damn man i was enjoying hating on them players, now i got noone to hate.

So i'm gonna HATE YOU :angrymob:

That said, its been years of hatred, something like this takes time to get over so denial is usually the first thing. Zambro should have really spoken out earlier, i mean waiting for so many years before coming out with this just sounds fucked up. I know if i cared, about my reputation with my ex fans i would come out blazing, whether its true or not, its an opinion that still has some weight for those that think objectively.

Also I don't blame the fans on the hating, yes the newspapers milked it, its us who took the most hurt from calciopoli, the club may have paid a price in reputation and finance, but for me the fans are just as important. The players move on, yes some of them give a shit, like zambro many years later, others just don't.
