Fabio Capello praised Giuliano Giannichedda as one of Juve’s silent pillars of strength, while Livorno President Aldo Spinelli took defeat badly.

“We knew it was difficult to play at the Stadio Picchi, as they are on form and have been impressive for a while now,” insisted the Bianconeri boss after their 3-1 victory.

“Nonetheless, if you look carefully there was only one really important save that Gianluigi Buffon had to make on Cristiano Lucarelli, while we had a few problems defending from set-pieces.”

Patrick Vieira was out injured, but Capello was happy with the way his replacement – Giuliano Giannichedda – filled in.

“Giannichedda put in an extraordinary performance. He is a player who knows how to create team spirit and always works hard, aware of the role he has in the side. Every time he is called upon, you know he’ll be ready. One of the real strengths of Juventus is having players like Giannichedda in the wings.”

David Trezeguet bagged a brace before Alessandro Del Piero’s late strike, but Marc Pfertzel had temporarily equalised for the Amaranto.

“We shouldn’t have lost the ball in midfield, knowing how good Livorno are on the break. I was especially disappointed by the fact we had several counter-attacks and could never finish them off. This should not happen, as some tried to dribble instead of shoot and others took the wrong option too. At least the team proved it is physically in good shape.”

However, Livorno President Aldo Spinelli took a very dim view of this latest setback, as his club has now won just once in the last 12 rounds.

“If the referee had been a bit more level-headed, then maybe we could’ve earned a result here,” slammed the patron. “Are the Juve players made of crystal? Every time we went anywhere near them, he awarded a free kick. It was scandalous!”

Carlo Mazzone was more open minded about the match and admitted to Livorno’s mistakes. “We made avoidable errors and lost concentration during the crucial moments of the game.”

he could it do better imo! he made an asisst but he could make another one but fall about the ball instead of passing him to trezegoal!

and I think it was his fault which gave us the 1-1!!

Actually I still think Blasi is better. He has lots more pace and is actually quite a good passer. Giannichiedda is much more experienced and calm, yet he makes some strange mistakes sometimes.
