Fabio Cannavaro will remember 2005 for a long time; it’s been a year that has made Juventus achieve important targets but that also brought the defender much personal satisfaction: “In comparison to last season, this time we did not have to play Champions League qualifying rounds and this has allowed us to keep a high pace until Christmas.
It’s been a wonderful year for me: I’ve won my first Scudetto which I had been expecting for a long time, and not only that: I’ve played every match, in the Italian league, in Champions League and with Italy, I’ve had no injury, had very few yellow cards and managed to keep a good continuity in my performance. Has it been my best year? Well, I’ve won the title and also it had never happened before that I could finish a season without missing a match and then start the new one still playing every match. Luckily I can train well and everything follows as a consequence of that.”
When he’s asked who is the player that has impressed him the most during the whole year, Fabio has no doubt: “Ibrahimovic: an extraordinary talent. Zlatan experiences football unlike the others. He has fun in searching for the spectacular play or dribbling the opponents. He may not always succeed in doing so but players like him must be given the freedom to invent.”
To keep on winning in 2006, his goals will come in handy: “We have a good attack, with players like David and Alex who score often. Undoubtedly, 2006 is going to be very hectic, with the Italian league, Champions League and the World Cup. Should I choose a target I would go for Champions League: our fans expect that and we just want to win the tournament.”
This Juventus will still be the team to beat next year? “Figures say so now, but the past has taught us that it takes a little to lose an eight-point advantage in the championship or get off from the Champions League.
Last year, it took us the first twenty minutes played in Liverpool: that was not the real Juventus and being sent off was the only negative thing in the whole season. We’re getting ready to face the new year being aware that we’re going to meet fierce opponents. I’m thinking of Milan and Inter but also of Fiorentina who are a very good side and who can be dangerous as they are not playing in other tournaments. There’s only one thing to do: never give up and face every single match like we’ve done during the past year”

Source: Juventus.com
