Category: General

Gianluigi Buffon impressed last night with some excellent saves in Italy's 4-1 win over Germany, though his best save was from a Luca Toni header as the striker made a mess of some defensive work! He took the opportunity to turn on both his critics and those of his Azzuri and Juventus teammate Alessandro Del Piero.

“I’ve been in this career for 11 years and have confidence in my abilities, so it irritates me to see people try to suggest I’m a timid goalkeeper. We gave an answer to the critics, and in particular my own, although Germany were a little less passionate in their approach. This is not the team we’ll see in the World Cup, that’s for sure."

“If that header had gone in, Toni probably would’ve celebrated!” he joked. “These things can happen and it’s important to be ready for anything.”

The Juventus man also chose to defend Del Piero from the critics, “Ale’s form has been going on for so long and with such consistency that it’s no longer a surprise to see him perform at this level.”

Source: Channel4.com
