Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is hoping to have better luck on the injury front next year.

The Italian international has been blighted by injury this term and has made only one appearance this campaign.

Buffon picked up a shoulder problem in August, which sidelined him for four months.

However, after making his comeback in the Coppa Italia at the beginning of December, he sustained a foot problem which will keep him out until the New Year.

"This has been a very unlucky year for me," said Buffon. "I hope for a change of fortune in 2006.

"This latest injury hasn't been unlucky because, due to the fact the shoulder was okay, I would have had the possibility to play a few matches and to find the game's rhythm.

"Anyway, this Christmas break will allow me to recover.

"In any case, I am happy with the way Abbiati has replaced me at Juve and, thanks to his form, nobody has noticed my absence."

Buffon is hoping that Abbiati will remain at Juventus and has backed his replacement to earn a place in the Italy squad for next summer's World Cup finals.

Buffon's long lay-off has raised fears over his readiness for the World Cup in June, but he believes the Juventus duo can dominate the Azzurri set-up as well.

"I hope that Abbiati will stay in Turin next season and that he can come with me to Germany with the Italy squad in the summer," added Buffon
