Category: General

Gianluigi Buffon is set to make his long-awaited return to the Juventus first team in next week’s Italian Cup match against Fiorentina.

Buffon has been out of action for three-and-a-half months after dislocating his shoulder in a clash with Kaka, during Juve’s pre-season defeat to Milan in the Berlusconi Cup.

He has been replaced up until now by Christian Abbiati for both the Bianconeri and also the Italian national team.

Abbiati, who was loaned to the Bianconeri by Milan as a goodwill gesture, has failed to live up to Buffon’s high standards and Coach Fabio Capello will be relieved to have Italy’s foremost shot-stopper back between the posts against the Viola.

The match will be a tough test for Buffon, given that the Tuscan outfit boast Italy’s top goalscorer in Luca Toni.

However, with the two sides due to meet again in the League the following Sunday, it is likely Toni will be rested for the Cup match.

Source: Football Italia

Great,Forza Buffon,I really missed him,and Viola is so unlucky having the oportunity to test the best keeper in the world.:)

But to be honest,Abbiati is doing great job really. He showed himself as a good keeper.

Yep. We're playing well, the defence is keeping Abbiati pretty well covered, he's doing a decent job and I'd rather rest Gigi more.

Altho I have a feeling that even if Gigi plays against Fiorentina he wont play in the league and CL afterwards.

That wouldnt be a bad solution either.

I don't think we should rush Gigi back in. But after an injury like that, he'll need some time to get his form up. What better time to do it than in the Coppa.

hm we would be playing against Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia and play them again the next match. And we r playing both games at their homeground

For these games, I would allow Gigi back to our squad only for the Coppa game. After all we should let him rest more and let Abbiati handle the Serie A games b4 Gigi fully recovers.

Exactly but let abbiati take on the next serie a games since his form is great. It will also give superman some more time to get fully recovered.. Toni will not be playing this game is that true??
