It's the results over the past 4 years that count iirc, so yeah previous tournaments do matter.

If (recent) results are not a fair way to measure a team's strength, then there simply is no fair way. What is a team's overall ability anyway? I'd say Manchester City's overall ability is much, much higher than Galatasaray or Celtic. Yet Man City went out in the 1st round of the CL last season, those 2 others didn't. Surely, that's not fair.
I'd say our overall ability is far higher than Copenhagen's. But we couldn't beat them (yet). Again, completely unfair.
...

Next thing you know, results don't matter anymore. We'll just decide who's best based on overall ability & results from 8 years ago.
That is not what I meant. However, England tend to do well in qualifiers and always suck in tournaments. Hence, they should never be seeded. As I said, Belgium and Colombia (to a certain extent) have been doing well, so I'd say they have somewhat earned the right to be seeded. However, what the fuck have Switzerland done?

I don't think they factor results of the past 2 tournaments, as the seeding system is based on the latest FiIFA Rankings, and if you play less games (including friendlies and such) then you have less chances of accumulating points.

I agree.

Colombia and Belgium is understandable.

But Switzerland, that's a joke.

They go back 4 years, so they do. The only team(s) for which the ranking is unfair are the host nations of big tournaments since they can only play friendlies in the time leading up to the event. Not that it matters much for them, since they are seeded anyway.

Which doesn't mean it's not surprising to see Columbia, Switzerland and Belgium being seeded. But the fact is they earned it based on objective results. And I think it's a good thing that FIFA (in this instance) doesn't just cater to the bigger names/teams by automatically seeding them based on reputation.

If we didn't went to the Asian trip, Holland would be ranked 4th of the world right now and this whole seeded bullshit was over. :sergio: All for some lousy 3 million

Als for Italy it doens't matter, they always deliver on big tournaments.

At big tournaments Italy almost always is either humiiliated or goes to the final. The only exception since 2000 in some ways was 2008.

Still, except for Spain, who were only succsessful during the last 5 years (but then big time), The only nation with comparable success has maybe been Germany.
