KOTA KINABALU: A cheeky burglar asked his would-be “prey” in the wee hours of the morning the score of the football game and when it would be over.
Drilin Abel, 18, who came out of his house at 4am for a breather during the Juventus and Fiorentina game, ignored the man who was having a smoke while seated on a road curb in Taman Indah Permai here on Monday.
He went back into his house and dozed off on the sofa with the television still on. He woke up 50 minutes later to find that the man had broken into his house and escaped with RM1,800.
Drilin alerted his mother, Amelia Abel, 40 and they called the police.
By then, the police had already detained the 24-year-old, a local from Kuala Penyu.
When Amelia asked the suspect where the stolen cash was, he claimed that he would return it if she got the police to set him free.
