Lacked awareness for most part, clumsy on the ball and tried to do too much on the ball. I do rate him for the way he uses his physicality as a defender, but today he was just plain bad. His movement was lacking, ere was absolutely no coordination between him and Caceres either, but the latter was a little more responsible with his game today.

Caceres is not a proper CB in a 3-5-2 or a 4-3-3. He's the one who lost Gomez, it's clear as day. Someone like Barzagli maybe can read that play better but there are few CBs who would have done much different than Ogbonna. Caceres has to either step up to Ogbonna and put Gomez offside or keep running with him. He just lets him go. :howler:

Ogbonna got caught on one turn by Valero but it ended up in a foul. He shanked one ball to the keeper after being put under pressure by Chiellini. Other than that he had a superb ball to Isla to start an attack and a superb ball to Vidal under pressure near his own corner flag to start another attack. I can't think of many other misplaced passes TBH, perhaps there were a couple others, certainly nothing like a Bonucci error to start a counter attack. A couple times Fiorentina took all his options away and he pushed on with the ball a bit too much but ultimately found a teammate even though it was clumsy at times.

He pressured a Matri chance into a miss, he had a bike clearance in the 6 yard box (Asamoah had one too). Blocked a hard shot with his head (didn't deflect it into his net like Bonucci lol), won every aerial ball vs. Matri. Won several balls with his head in his own box.

Sure, he's a more astute defender than Bonnucci, but that's not saying much at this point, is it? My criticism of him, was purely on the basis of tonight's game, where I think he didn't show the finesse he's capable of showing. Few more starts and I guess hell grow into that role. Let's give it time. Hopefully, next season in a four man defense, he'll have a bit more bandwidth playing to his strengths and we won't have to deal with Bonucci either.

I told you that he is overrated and not anywhere nearly the ammount we have invested on him.
But he was one of the best available Italian solutions and we are only interested on Italian CBs for nationalistic reason, so we were bound to pay more for less...

We should sell Barzagli and Chiellini, those nationalistic pigs are taking up space for all of the Knazevices and the rest of the holy foreigners.

How can someone blame Gomez's goal on Ogbonna? Chiellini and Ogbonna were both not even playing Gomez on side. Caceres was and then when Ogbonna went to put pressure on Gomez, instead of Caceres coming in to try and block the shot he backed off an went centrally trying to defend a player that wasnt there. While Caceres did make the mistake, he isn't a natural center back and I don't blame him for the draw. The team is at fault with the draw.

Ogbonna has shown he is a very strong defender and I agree 100% with MikeM. He played an amazing game and besides a couple of almost losing the ball, he was flawless.

BS, Ogbonna acted in a way that he was going to intercept the ball, that's why Caceres stopped tracking Gomez. Then all of a sudden Ogbonna pulled out and missed the ball which left Gomez alone. and just minutes ago Conte was shouting at Ogbonna for not talking, lack of communication in the defence. Our defence lacks a leader, a talker, in the current setup I think Buffon is the only talker in the defence.

Cant play Chiellini and Ogbonna at the same time. Two extremely clumsy CB's and on another day with a more strict ref you could've seen a lot of fouls given along with pens too.

Plus this Ogbonna gets easily beaten for pace,i mean his recovery speed is so poor.
