I guess TB and Harbaugh got their man? Blazing speed, I watched some interviews, seems like a good kid. Hope he's motivated, and fits well with the team!

Still trying to figure out this A.J. Jenkins selection

and.......................................................

I still can't.

I guess Ballke wasn't kidding when he said that if the player he wants at #30 is still there, he's grabbing him. Wish Granted, because nobody else would have even considered taking him at the end of the first round.

Stephen Hill and Coby Fleener were there at #30, but I digress. He certainly knows more about drafting than I do.

Fleener is a beast.

I'm hoping Jeffrey makes it to Texans position, or they trade up.

Serginho, how are you feeling about the LaMichael James pick? We got a couple wee-yet-explosive backs now, no doubt about it. I thought we might draft Doug Martin where we picked Jenkins, we needed another back, but I figured the team would look for an every down guy.

Certainly wouldn't have expected the selection, but he's obviously a lot of fun to watch, and he'll add quality depth to our return game immediately.

The 9 just brought in a whole lot of speed - both these guys were combine studs, especially James who was top 3 in a few of the categories.

I wonder if Kilgore will be the starting RG... kind of looks like it. Seems a bit sketchy.

James is a bit frail though.
Is he? His lower body isn't quite as thick as one would like maybe, but he looks pretty strong in the workout clips I saw, and his stats seem to suggest some pretty full seasons. Also showed some clips from his home in Texarkana, this guy comes from serious poverty, lost his parents young (dad died, mom not around), his grandma when he was a junior, and then lived on his own to finish High School... I bet he's a pretty tough guy.

He's basically the exact same size as... Kendall Hunter. And Barry Sanders :p

Yeah, I deserve a shot in the mouth for that Sanders comment. Highlights anyone?

he is s good pick-up, a Sproles-type of player even if not quite as explosive, shifty and physically strong as the original. My main concern would be whether he would be able to stay on his feet in the NFL after a tackle/hit as he seems to have a bit of a frail frame ... Sproles may be small but is very strong and tough to bring down, provided that anyone catches up to him, that is.

He had some injury troubles in college. Which is why he wasn't a 1st rounder.

Sproles is tough to bring down because he's only 5' 6", and nobody can get down that low :p Anyway, Harbaugh was raving about how hard James is to tackle in goal line situations, and said that he thinks he can play in all situations.

Gotta talk up the new players obviously, but he's certainly not just reiterating what the pundits are saying. They flat out love this guy in SF, in part because he absolutely tore it up against Stanford. Sounds like he was definitely one of their targets from the beginning... just like Jenkins. :D

Doesn't have the round quads/glutes like some of these little guys, but 5'8" 194 pounds, I'm not sure frail is the right word here. We'll have to see what he look like after he's got a little NFL strength and conditioning going on.

Also don't think he's going to be as effective as Sproles is at catching the ball... anyway, we'll have to see.

I think he'll have a solid NFL career if used correctly. Probably need to limit the amount of hits he takes over the course of the season.
No problems there, plenty of depth until it's understood exactly what his role will be.

Hmmm... I thought that was more based upon his size. The stats I saw said he played 13, 13, and 14 games in his three seasons.

Some pretty gaudy numbers obviously, plus a Doak Walker award, 3rd in a Heisman vote...

Maybe he played through some injuries?

He never had a serious injury at Oregon that I can remember. He had a nasty elbow dislocation but was back for the next game.
Nice! That's exactly what I like to hear. One of my favorite parts about the 9 drafting Aldon last year, was his threshold for pain. James isn't close to playing 6 games on a cracked leg, but I love that toughness, and so do the coaches!

Here's a little release on the 9's website. Harbaugh clearly loves this guy...

Even compares him to Ray Rice at one point

Looks like we got some nice value on day three, including Cam Johnson with our 7th (great athlete, apparently he was ranked 50th out of Mayock's top 100 players, and had a 2nd round grade - whatever that's worth. Apparently had a knee injury that "held me back last year, but I'm feeling healthy and I'm ready to compete." Sounds like we got a couple decent prospects for special teams and OLB). Also nabbed a 3rd and I think a 5th for next year's draft?

Harbaugh said that this Joe Looney guy who they took in the 4th round was one of his three favorite interviews at the combine. Apparently a nasty run blocker, who loves to pull and play power football. Played Center in HS, LG at Wake, says he's comfortable to shift to RG and has done some of that in practice. Trained with Jeremy Newberry, apparently slipped a bit because of an ankle injury at the senior bowl - which he's ahead of schedule rehabbing.

Looks like he could be SF's RG of the future.
