pastore requires a 4--3-1-2 or 4-2-3-1 formation, the second one with high technique/passing

we need a SS that can score goals and an attacking winger on the left
sanchez covers both

The good thing about Sanchez is he plays well as an SS and knows how to be a winger when necessary, so if Krasic goes down we can change formation as necessary to make the system work well. I see Sanchez playing best as an SS but doing well as a RW in the advanced winger in Conte's 424.

With Ziegler/Pirlo/Pazienza for free and us really trying to bring down the prices of Beck/Lichtensteiner, it looks like we are really trying to save as much money as possible for a big signing. If its true that we are putting our eggs in one basket with sanchez then we might actually see ourselves overpaying for him which is expected considering the other clubs interested and our situation.

Us overpaying would not be the result of Marotta making a mistake at the negotiation table rather it would be the fault of the club and the course it's taken over the last season. If it means bringing in a player of his caliber we will most probably guarantee overpaying for him, so brace yourselves for it...it's going to happen, but at the end of the day we will have a DP replacement and a fantastic player that will hopefully bring the club some revenue in return, along with some extra points in the table.

It could have been a smokescreen (seriously) for Sanchez. Who knows? Either Plan would guarantee us a major jump in quality.
