Okay. Your alternatives?
Exactly. People like to dismiss and right off our suggested signings but rarely give a realistic or viable alternative.

I think Matri has done more than enough to prove he is good enough to play for us. 9 goals in 16 games for this horribly performing Juve team (and 20 goals for the season) are pretty good stats. He is only 26 years old as well so he has a few years left in him too.

we signed martinez for 12mil and now 15.5mil for matri is too much?
Yes i think that price is inflated, and its 17.5 millions (including his loan fees).

Its not like he's banging those 20 goals "every single season". The man scored 36 goals in 125 matches with cagliari (its an ok stats nothing more or less IMO). Amauri managed to had a more impressive ratio (goals per matches) with palermo and a great half season with us yet he screwed up afterwards.

Point is if we'll get him for a cheap then that would be a good piece of business by our guys but paying +15 millions for a player who just had his "best season ever" is worrying. We did that before with many players including Amauri, Melo and it backed fire at us.

As for the alternatives am not a scout so i wouldn't know, but there are "always" great quality players out there available for that kind of price.

Lazio managed to get hernanes for 13 millions and he wasn't some unknown kid, he was one of the brightest players coming from Brazil and we all knew about him by then. Pastore another player that was well known in argentina before Palermo snap him for around 6-7 millions. And there are "dozens" of other quality players who were signed every year for that kind of money or even less.

All what they have to do is look elsewhere other than this average serie A.

Difference is Matri is clearly a better player and a much better fit for this Juve than Amauri ever is/was.

Matri came in, has done a good job and proved he can step up to the plate and play for a big team which is expected to win every game and play under constant pressure from the media and fans. I think 15 mill for him is a pretty fair price actually. As I said, name me a 26 year old striker who has a pretty good goal scoring rate that he has, for under 15 million euros (a realistic one)

With another proper winger or SS next to him I think he'll score even more for us.

For every Hernanes and Pastore that succeeded in Serie A, there are 20 other Martinez, Larriveys and Nenes. The same way Matri could fail because Amauri did, these cheap, quality players from S. America or wherever else can. The difference is that Matri has already shown he can play with us, so we just have to hope he doesn't all of a sudden bust like Amauri did. These players from elsewhere are more of a gamble.

Yes, we should be doing our scouting and taking gambles on these players, but to reject someone who has already started banging in goals for us to be our main striker in favour of an Argie striker costing 10m, who has a much lower chance of succeeding, is nuts.

I guess we won't agree on this topic, but i have my doubts about Matri.

Personally i think he's decent but not more than that. And for 17.5 millions i think thats a pretty risky :money: for him.

Of course there will always be doubts over any signing, but you'd think he is a less of a gamble than another striker for a similar cost. The 17.5 millions is a couple mill too many, I agree.

i agree with "only-juve" on this one..

matri has proven that hes up to it but can he keep it up and improve further is a question only time can answer

we are again overpaying though for a player who is not even a starter for italy when that team doesnt have an abundance of riches upfront

id say 10-12 max.....a loan fee of 2.5 and then 15.5 for taking up the option is a combined 18 mill which is way too much

Matri is certainly a very good striker. The best thing about him that he is always available for teammates and finds space. He is rather speedy and strong in the air. We will hardly find somebody better for this sum of money.
