Goodfellas is a good movie, for what it is: a movie about mid-level gangsters/mobsters. and for that, it's great. it's depressing, violent, accurate in those sense (I suppose, can't really say) but that's precisely why it's limited. the subject matter simply doesn't in itself make a good movie. In the Godfather and Once Upon a Time in America, the scope of the movie goes far beyond the gangster world, and that is why those movies are overall superior, even though there is no doubt that goodfellas is an excellent movie. it is just is limited.

Heat is also very overrated, Pacino completely overacting. He does do an excellent job in scent of a woman however. if only he always was able to change character so well.

eh, I knew I forgot somethin: casino

overall, decent film, but WAY too drawn out. could have been far better, but it wasn't out together well.

de niro is a FAR better actor, pacino used to be good, but now just overacts so much I can barely stand to watch his films. always the same bloody scene with him. De Niro gets annoying, but at least he's more varied!

btw, anyone here seen Cape Fear?! incredible movie, creepy as anything I've ever seen.
man o man cape fear is superb, de niro forgoes the usual, quiet menace and goes full throttle psycho to startling effect. though i have to tip my hat to robetr mitchum who starred in the original.

and i could not agree more with you on your views, to me pacino overacts far too often. there was greatness in the subtlety he applied to michael corleone in the godfather that has been missing in recent years

Pacino, HOOOWAAAA!!

Scarface:
Tony Montana: "You tell your guys in Miami. Your friends. It'd be a pleasure. I kill comunist for fun. But for a green card, I gonna carve him up real nice."

"I'm Tony Montana...you f**k with me, you f***ing with The Best"

"What are you lookin' at? You're all a bunch of f***ing' a**holes. You know why? You don't have the guts to be what you wanna be. You need people like me. You need people like me so you can point your f***in' fingers, and say "that's the bad guy." So, what'll that make you? Good? You're not good. You just know how to hide, how to lie. Me, I don't have that problem. Me, I always tell the truth. Even when I lie. So say goodnight to the bad guy. Come on. Last time you're gonna see a bad guy like this again, let me tell you. Make way for the bad guy."

"In this country, you gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. Then when you get the power...you get the women."

"Say hello to my little friend!"

The Godfather:
Michael Corleone: "Fredo, you're my older brother, and I love you, but don't ever take sides with anyone against the family again. Ever."

"My father made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

" I know it was you, Fredo. You broke my heart. You broke my heart."

"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in."

This is the "Pele vs Maradona" of cinema really.

Pele being De Niro (more lasting and consistent)
Pacino is Maradona (simply mesmerizing when at his best)

"This scene shows why Al Pacino is one of, if not the, Best actors still out there,In his seven minute speech he goes through seven different emotions. Calm, Humor, calm, humor, sad (crying), anger, volcano!!!"
