    I'm just trying to figure out how on Earth he came across the expression 'dot', since the only time people ever emphasise the "." is when they say "period" or "full stop" as we say in Australia.

    In many languages we use the "." as; "thats it","end of story" .
    Its the last symbol used in a text and declares the end.

    Esp in Greece we use .-
