Really picking on the wrong guy... Chiellini is a legend... best Juve defender (to me) since I started watching.

Matuidi was on Vasquez and Kovacic was free at the edge of the box asking for a pass; so Chiellini went for Kovacic... that's my take after re-watching it... although I am guessing your post was not a question, and you and others already have a different interpretation of that play.
