I certainly prefer him in a more advanced role. I think eventually his best fit would be the role Ronaldo plays currently for us. Imo Chiesa is player whose attacking numbers can explode when it clicks for him. Think of Salah before he went to Liverpool and found a more consistent end product.

No he didn't, because he doesn't have the defensive duties of a winger.

That's definitely not true based on the games I watched last season. He didn't track the runs of the LB in those games.

The point is that the defensive duties are different for someone playing as a forward compared to someone playing as a winger.

Being a forward doesn't mean that you need to be glued up top. Take a look at Dybala for example he moves to the right-wing and drops deep quite regularly. However it does free you from having to run that flank up and down as your defensive assignment usually is one of the CBs.

As I already said in the majority of games where he played as a forward he didn't have such defensive responsibilities. In the games he played as RW he obviously did.

Apart from Messi those guys played as wingers, meaning their defensive duty was to mark the oppositions fullback. Many of them play in much better teams than Chiesa though so their teams overall had to do less defending.

Sure, both him and Ribery moved allover the pitch, but playing as forwards still relieved them from any defensive duties.

Not that I disagree with the point you're making, but he did play mostly up front last season.

I don't think he'll move this summer. We can get him in a year or two.
