That doesn't really matter at this point. He's into the last 18 months of his contract, which is worth about 7.5m on the books. On the books he'll be treated very much like a free transfer with his new contract. Which is another reason why us offering him a 200k raise makes no sense.

We convinced him to stay last season and we got a dud. Asamoah, uncharacteristically, played good enough to cover for that. Maybe a wage increase will improve his performances? :boh: Considering our options, a dud Sandro looks a better option than others currently.

If you believe the reports around that time, he was courted extensively by Chelsea and it looked like the management made him stay (after losing Bonucci and Alves, who wouldn't). Didn't really work out so far.

Marcelo would go for significantly more than that, if he were to be sold. This market is not what it was a year ago. Neymar sale changed everything. Van Dijk went for 85m, Walker went for 60m etc. Maybe in a few years time the absurdity will end, but I doubt it.

Sandro had a poor start and Asa was surprisingly solid for most games. But the balance has been restored recently with Sandro improving considerably and Asamoah being generally average both in defence and offence.

He's certainly improving. Hopefully he's back to his best self come February.
