    I'm sure they enjoy themselves to some extent, especially those with a passion for the game. I'm pretty sure most if not all footballers would rather play football than sit on the bench and get paid

    I don't think the standard of the game would be nearly as high if it wasn't about money. Clubs wouldn't get the funding for player development and facilities they they need. Without money, sports go downhill. You can't ask companies (which is essentially what football clubs are) to compete...
