Nah. Don't think his passing is good enough. Also think he's better where he is given a freer role so he can use his athleticism, rather than being restricted in the way the deepest player usually is.

This is something I brought up a while ago. Juve don't have anyone else that I'd view as adequate in that position just now.

I would dispute that. I also don't think he gets out-muscled particularly often. Sure, he's not going to win as many duels as Pogba, but a lack of muscle is far from being a feature of Marchisio's game.

His error wasn't in getting out-muscled. The problem was that he tried to challenge Mertens at the wrong time and from the wrong angle, which left him vulnerable to being shrugged off. That sort of error in decision making is very rare from Marchisio.

I'd have been more impressed if he'd taken a good first touch instead of getting into a situation where he had to do something good to recover.
