And how is that good for Juve? Because we're going to have to take that same money and buy another defender when we had a perfectly good one (IF he is good enough for Atalanta to make him their most expensive signing ever).

IF Atalanta take up the option and IF they later sell at a high price, it could be a good deal for Juve - not withstanding that we are now weaker in defence. All the risk is with Juve, while Atalanta has very little risk.
