True, we definitely can't hope to compete with the rich clubs for established names. Our scouting has to improve and look beyond Italy (and the occasional Icelander and Barca youth reject).

The real question is, can Marotta help us to the next level and make us true Europ heavyweights? :D Is it even possible given our financial constraints and the handicap of being in Serie A?

Moggi was great at what he did, sure. So all we're really saying is that you can't say Marotta sucks because of how awesome Moggi was.

What Zalayeta, Blasi and Giannichedda cost would be the equivalent of more than 10 million now. Anyway, Moggi didn't have to build a winning squad from crap. He had a quality team, a lot of money, and the name Juventus (in the strongest league).Marotta had a much harder job.

Gladstone, Kapo, Zalayeta, Blasi, Giannichedda, Zebina, Olivera. Consider how much they cost and how much the market has inflated since then, to put it into perspective. Look at the difference in the players we're signing now and the ones we signed when Calciopoli was fresh and our reputation...

Why is he treated as a welcome guest by the club? Apart from the Calciopoli business, all he ever does is take shots via the media at the club's management.
