Thing is, Saponara is decent, but no clear upgrade over Pereyra in any way.

Yeah, as I said I don't believe we'll sign him. But in reality, we tried for Draxler and didn't reach an agreement. What we didn't do is try for Reus, then Götze, then Draxler, and now Saponara. Big difference.

Only that Götze & especially Reus were most probably never considered as a serious possibility, Saponara links are very few and unreliable so far, and most sources even report that the Draxler deal isn't off (though I'm not very optimistic on that front).

He's been good, and I think he's a useful player, the problem is that I really think that he'd be an upgrade from Pereyra. He might offer something different (more passing orientated than Pereyra, who's a better dribbler), but in general they are of a comparable quality, and I don't know whether...

Honestly, he'd be a great signing if we didn't already have Pereyra. But we do, and he's pretty much perfect for the role of back-up/rotational AM, so I wouldn't support this move. He's done really well since he left Milan though, wouldn't be surprised to see him become a really good player in...
