The point is that I'm trying to distinguish between the English e (double e) and the "European" [Italian] e (as in "jerk").

No, it's a fluent legato transition from on to the other, just trying to point out that it's not 3 eee's instead of two (like in "weee" ;)).

It marks a break in the pronounciation, to distinguish from the double e before it ;) Just cut off the ee and append a single e. Makes sense, no? ;)

Well if you listen to Rai during games, you get an idea of how Italians like to pronounce them, both for good (Italian names) and less good (foreign names, eg. Birof :D)
